Inspired by the legend of Mu Ye Peh, renowned as the most beautiful Karen woman, this design originated in the Pegu (Pago) Yoma region of Myanmar. Traditionally, the number of horizontal stripes around the waist served as an indicator of social and economic status; garments with a greater number of stripes were associated with greater wealth.
